Psychological therapy is not necessarily just about resolving problems and challenges by talking.

Where necessary, psychological therapy and coaching can involve working experientially with body work, building new resources and life skills, using exercises that are easy to learn and practice:

• Advanced breathing techniques to calm and revitalise

• Relaxation techniques and exercises developed from the arts of Aikido and Tai Chi

• Computerised Bio-Feedback that enable you to see when you are working optimally

• Practice sessions to developing a meditation and mindfulness practice

• Techniques to enhance your visualisation skills and your creative imagination

• Focusing training to help you access your intuition and inner wisdom

• Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) for trauma

• Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) ‘tapping’ new inner resources

Important information to know while in therapy or coaching:

How long do therapy sessions last?

Therapy sessions based at the therapy centres start on the hour and last for approximately 50 minutes to 1 hour depending on my room booking schedule of the locations where I am based. This is the typical length of time for individual therapy or coaching. However, as you will see above, I also offer extended sessions. Group therapy and couple therapy will typically last approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes. Extended sessions can be arranged in advance, my fees for this are negotiable, depending on your circumstances and availability.

Can I book an assessment session?

You are more than welcome to arrange an assessment session to briefly explore your therapeutic needs and discuss any concerns you may have. When booking a single session of therapy, please bare in mind that it may not be possible to guarantee the same time slot for subsequent weeks, unless you book a course of therapy in advance. I will of course do my best to accommodate your scheduling requirements.

How many sessions of therapy will I need?

This is negotiated on an individual basis and is dependent on your particular circumstances and requirements. However, I normally recommend booking an assessment session followed by six weekly therapy or coaching sessions. We will use the the sixth session of the course to review your process. Additional courses of therapy or coaching can be arranged to suit your individual therapy or coaching needs should you require therapy or coaching over a longer term. Once you begin to achieve the results you are looking for you may wish to reduce your sessions to either fortnightly or even monthly before ending the therapy contract completely. My door is always open should you need my services in the future and you are more than welcome to contact me by e-mail  or text at any time.

Can I e-mail you during my therapy with you?

While you are in therapy you are more than welcome to use e-mail to support your therapeutic process, report on progress, give feedback and ask questions. It may not always be possible for me to reply the same day, however, I do my best to reply within 48 hours.

How do I get the maximum benefit from my therapy?

Progress with therapy and coaching very much depends on your commitment to the process. Therefore, to gain the maximum benefit from your therapy and coaching it is important to attend therapy consistently, minimising your absences, as well as engaging in any home practice that is recommended.

What should I do if I am unable to attend a booked appointment?

I ask that you notify me by phone or text as soon as you know that you will not be able to attend a therapy or coaching session. You will be charged the room booking fee of £20 for sessions cancelled without at least seven days notice to cover room rental charges. You will be charged the full fee for sessions that you have booked and miss without giving at least 24 hours notification. Allowances will be made for extenuating circumstances, due to illness or unforeseen circumstances.

What should I do if I am intending to take a holiday during

a course of therapy?

Please give me advanced notice if you are intending to take a holiday during a course of therapy. If you wish to maintain your therapy slot on a particular day and time, you will need to pay the room booking fee of £20 per session missed. This is especially important if your therapy slot is at a popular time of the day (5pm - 8pm Monday to Thursday). However, if you are planning on taking an extended holiday of more than six weeks, the room booking fee may be waved if I am able to book the therapy room during your absence.

What about confidentiality?

As a Counselling Psychologist I am bound by Ethical Frameworks for Best Practice, Professional Conduct, and Research laid down by the British Psychological Society (BPS), the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) and the National Council for Hypnotherapy (NCH).

The British Psychological Society (BPS).

The British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).

The United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP).

National Council for Hypnotherapy (NCH).

Everything that happens within therapy sessions is strictly confidential. If there are concerns about yours or another persons safety - I am required by a duty of care to inform your GP or relevant services. Such circumstances are very rare and every effort would be made to ensure that any communication that became necessary would be made with your full knowledge and consent.

What should I do if I want to end therapy?

You are completely free to end therapy at any point during a course of therapy. All I ask is that you give me at least seven days notice so as to avoid the room booking fee of £20 being charged for cancelled appointments.
